Maintaining a clean and shiny bike is essential for a great riding experience. Washing a motorcycle can seem like a daunting task, especially for beginners. However, with the right tools and techniques, it’s easy to clean your bike like a pro. In this guide, we'll go over the steps you need to take to get your motorcycle looking its best. Read on to learn more!
Gather the Supplies
Before you start cleaning your motorcycle, you'll need to gather some supplies. You'll need a bucket, sponges or a soft-bristled brush, microfiber towels, a hose, and a mild detergent specially designed for motorcycles. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials as they can damage the paint or metal.
Pre-Rinse Your Motorcycle
Start by giving your bike a quick pre-rinse with a hose to remove loose dirt and debris. Avoid spraying directly at any electrical components, like the battery or wires. Use a low-pressure setting if possible. If you don't have access to a hose, a bucket of water and a sponge or soft-bristled brush will do the trick.
Washing
Next, fill a bucket with water and add the motorcycle cleaning solution. Use a wash mitt or sponge and start at the top of the bike and work your way down, making sure to thoroughly clean every surface. Pay special attention to areas with a lot of grime, such as the wheels. Rinse your sponge frequently to avoid scratching your motorcycle's paint.
Dry the Bike
After you've washed your motorcycle, it's time to dry it off. Use a microfiber towel to gently wipe away any excess water. Be sure to get into all the nooks and crannies, such as around the engine and under the seat. Remember to dry your motorcycle’s tires as well.
Waxing and Polishing
To keep your motorcycle looking its best, consider waxing and polishing it. Apply a high-quality wax to protect the paint and metal from UV rays, dirt, and debris. Use a microfiber towel to buff the wax to a shine. A polishing compound can also help remove scratches or swirl marks on the bodywork.
