A Brief History Of BMW® Motorcycles!

Most people these days will recognize BMW® as a leading manufacturer of motor vehicles, including motorcycles. This German company has been manufacturing fast, sleek motorcycles for decades, although their origins actually lay somewhere else. Read on to learn more about how BMW® came into being.
 

Company Beginnings

The company now known as BMW® began as an aircraft manufacturer called Bayerische Flugzeugwerke in 1916. By 1922, it was rechristened Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW). While BMW® primarily manufactured aircraft and aircraft engines during the First World War, their focus changed due to a ban placed on German aircraft manufacturing. So in the 1920s, the company began making motorcycles and motorcycle engines, farm equipment, railroad brakes, and household items. In 1928, BMW® turned to automobiles.

During World War II, the company struggled, particularly after the division of Germany at the war’s end. Motorcycle production in Germany was also halted until 1947 as part of a treaty.
 

Post-War Resurgence

After rebuilding its factories, BMW® slowly recovered from the rigors of war, and the company continued to produce cars and motorcycles that became extremely popular on the global market. This means you’ve got plenty of options to choose from when it comes to selecting a powerful, fast motorcycle.
